Becoming a Member

In order to join the Institute, you need to provide the following:

Full Member Application

  • Membership Application form - to be filled online.
  • Fit and Proper form duly filled and stamped by Oaths commissioner - to be scanned and uploaded
  • Certified Copy of CIFA/CFA Certificate Attached - to be scanned and uploaded
  • CV (to be filled online application)
  • Employer Reference letter - to be scanned and uploaded
  • Certified Copies of other Certificates (Bachelors, Masters, PHD etc)

Associate Member Application

  • Membership Application form - to be filled online
  • Fit and Proper form duly filled and stamped by Oaths commissioner
  • Certified Copy of CIFA/CFA Certificate Attached
  • CV (to be filled online application)
  • Certified Copies of other Certificates (Bachelors, Masters, PHD etc)

Practising Member

Grant of practising certificate fee (one-time payment) Kshs. 15,000
Annual Subscription Fee * Kshs. 15,000
Annual Benevolent Fund Contribution * Kshs. 1,750

* In case one joins in the middle of a year, the annual subscription for the first year is prorated as following with respect to the date of joining:
April to June Kshs. 11,250 (total payable: Kshs. 28,000)
July to September Kshs. 7,500 (total payable: Kshs. 24,250)
October to December Kshs. 3,750 (total payable: Kshs. 20,500)

* Note that the full annual subscription amount is payable in the first year if member joins from January to March.

Grant of Practising Certificate Checklist

  • Applicant must be a Full Member or Fellow of the Institute.
  • Applicant must have at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • A duly filled ICIFA application form for Practising Certificate.
  • Membership subscription must be up to date.
  • Applicant should be up to date with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credits in accordance with existing requirements. Provide a duly signed CPD form from the Institute.
  • Applicant must be a member of the Institute in good standing.
  • Letter of reference from employer confirming professional integrity and diligence.
  • Letter(s) from a firm(s) recognized by the Institute confirming relevant experience adding up to not less than 4 years and such letters to clearly indicate the nature of the practice, ie financial analysis, research, investment advisory, corporate finance, transaction advisory etc.
  • Letters of reference detailing knowledge about the applicant from two referees, one of whom must be a member of the Institute.
  • Applicant must not have been subject to any disciplinary action or pending disciplinary case by the Institute.
  • A copy of business registration certificate and Pin Certificate if practising as a firm.
  • If licensed under any financial services regulator (ie CMA, CBK, RBA, SASRA, IRA, etc), provide copy of license.
  • Provide postal and physical addresses of the firm and names of partners / directors of the firm.

Requirements for Registration of Firms

Pursuant to section 18(1) and 21(1) of the Investment and Financial Analysts Act (No. 13 of 2015), the following are the requirements for firms to be registered with ICIFA:

  1. The Firms should give details of its engagement in the public practice of financial and investment analysis, including its proprietors.
  2. The Firms should have a person or persons who are members of ICIFA in good standing and hold Practising Certificates and valid Annual Licences issued by ICIFA
